Facts about Uro-Vaxom
Uro-Vaxom is an immune stimulating agent. It differs from treatment with antibiotics in that the Uro-Vaxom strengthens the immune response of the urinary tract. One Uro-Vaxom capsule contains 6mg of lyophilized bacterial lysates of Escherichia coli. It also contains inert excipients pregelatinized maize starch, magnesium silicate, magnesium stearate, sodium glutamate, mannitol, gelatin, ferric oxides, and titanium dioxide.
How Uro-Vaxom Works
Uro-Vaxom, in humans, stimulates T-lymphocytes, induces production of endogenous interferon and increases the Secretory Immunoglobulin A (sIgA), level in urine. Secretory Immunoglobulin A is an antibody which plays a critical role in mucosal urinary immunity. It protects against microbes that multiply in body secretions.
In animals it has been reported to provide a protective effect against experimental infections, a stimulation of macrophages, β-lymphocytes and immunocompetent cells, as well as an increase in IgA level in intestinal secretions
Benefits
> Prevention of recurrent lower urinary tract infections
> Immunotherapy
> Co medication in the treatment of acute urinary tract infections
Dosage and Administration
> Preventive treatment and/or consolidation therapy: 1 capsule daily on an empty stomach for three (3) consecutive months.
> Treatment during acute episodes – 1 capsule daily on an empty stomach as co medication to conventional antimicrobial therapy until disappearance of the symptoms for at least ten (10) consecutive days.
> Presentation – in packs 90 capsules
In order to establish a full immune response it is important to continue the treatment over 90 days, even when symptoms have ceased. Patients with a very weak immune system might need to be treated over longer periods of time than the initial 90 day course. To refresh the memory of the immune response, the following protocol is 90 initial treatment, 90 days off, then 10 days on & 20 days off. Repeat this 10 days on & 20 days off for the next three (3) months.
There has been no known case of overdosage nor of drug interaction up to now.
Limitations for use
> The efficacy and safety of Uro-Vaxom have not been established in children below four (4) years.
> When considering its effects on one’s ability to drive and use machines – Uro-Vaxom is presumed to be safe and unlikely to produce a sedative effect.
> It is contraindicated when there is known hypersensitivity towards the constituents of Uro-Vaxom

With regard to breast-feeding, no specific studies have been performed and no data have been reporte to date.
